Functional Programming Principles in Scala (7 part series)

Coursera.org is offering a course entitled "Functional Programming Principles in Scala" where Martin Odersky will serve as the instructor.  The class will consist of lecture videos, which are between 6 and 15 minutes in length. These contain integrated quiz questions per video. There will also be standalone homeworks that are not part of video lectures, and a final exam.

The course is broken into seven weeks with updates every Tuesday. We'll hold meetups the following Thursday where we'll project the course videos and run through the integrated quizes together.

While it is not strictly necessary, I encourage anyone interested in attending to register for the course personally. Apparently Martin will sign your completion certificate as part of the package if you do so.

Seven weeks of consecutive meetups should serve as a nice motivator for those (like me) who are interested in completing the course but might otherwise not make the time.

This the second time that I tried to attend a meeting here. I guess that I 10 time 20 minutes late each time. I called from the lobby. No answer. I got the Security guard to escort me to the office. No one there.

That sucks. It is kind of deep within the office, and the door locks. Also, there are two sides of the 4th floor, and the first time I went it wasn't a trivial path to get from one side to the other.

This week's videos run around 1 hour. We'll devote a few minutes to environment setup questions and roll the first video no later than 6:45. So, we should complete all 6 before 8pm. The course guidelines forbid group work on this round of assignments so we won't be reviewing those together. However - feel free to use our meetup forums for posting general queries.

We've always parked in a garage and walked down. Maybe if you give yourself some more time you could try to park on the street, but it's a pretty busy area...

how's the street parking there? will there be spots around 6:30PM? I might be driving from Herndon, but not confirmed yet.
