Announcing a new Meetup for DC/MD/VA Outdoor Adventure Group!

What: Prince William Forest

When: Sunday, June 6,[masked]:00 AM

Where:
Prince William Forest Park
18100 Park Headquarters Rd
Triangle, VA 22172
[masked]

Anyone up for a nice quick hike in Prince William Forest this weekend? I'm doing this hike on Sunday to give the people who work on Saturday a chance to come out with us.

We'll meet at the Turkey Run Education Center at 9 am on SUNDAY and start the hike at 9:15.

There's a also a commuter parking lot just down the road from the park entrance, at the corner of Rtes 1 and 619 where we can meet and carpool in and save on entrance fees. The park entrance fee is $5.00 per car and they accept the National Parks pass (I don't have one but anyone who does should bring it.) If you want to meet at the commuter lot, we'll be leaving there at 8:45. Otherwise just show up at the Turkey Run parking lot at 9, as mentioned above.

This will be approximately a 6+ mile hike, a few steeps sections here and there that are generally short lived. It's a lot of up and down but nothing too strenuous.

I do keep a pretty fast pace though, so be prepared for that. If anyone wants to volunteer to sweep I'll open it up to more people.

Here's a link to the park trail map: http://data2.itc.nps.gov/parks/prwi/ppMaps/new%5FPRWI%5FMap%2Epdf

The loop we're taking is Mary Bird -> Lake One -> Quantico Falls -> North Valley -> North Orenda -> South Valley -> Turkey Run Ridge. It's a clockwise loop through a variety of terrain and will take about 2-1/2 hours.

I've done this loop several times and have never quite been able to figure out exactly how many miles it is ;-).
