At the “App Launch” Meetup Axel Springer presents two new applications, the WELT Edition app ( https://appsto.re/i6S63tp ) created by the WeltN24 Development Unit and the brand new UPDAY Android implemented by the AS ideas engineering. We will show you some cool new features and the technical details behind.

WELT Edition (iOS App) – Caspar Seibert (PM), Vittorio Monaco (Dev), Cesar Vargas Casaseca (Dev)

· Swift - The experience we had with the language and the development tools

· Unit Testing - Our path towards troubleless refactors

· JavaScript interaction - Overview about the interaction between native code and HTML

· Fastlane - How to easily forget about deployment issues

· Open Source Project Carlos - A simple but flexible cache for iOS 8+, Mac OS X 10.9+ and WatchOS 2 (tvOS coming soon)

UpDay (Android App) – Andreas Kranki (PO), Peter Krauß (Dev)

UPDAY will offer Samsung customers access to a range of news content that combines ‘Need to Know’ information selected by local market editorial teams in various countries and ‘Want to Know’ information, an algorithm-based service tailored to customers’ individual interests.

· Personalization System:
To allow the user a maximum of personalization but prevent the donut problem (that you like donuts, does not mean that you wanna have only donuts), we split our app into two different worlds. The "AI" based news aggregation part and the quality journalistic, editorial part. This allows us to provide the user all the stuff he "Wants To Know" and everything he "Needs To Know". Next to this we developed a Symphony concept that is basically a set of rules based on editor news composition like in a newspaper.

· Architecture of the app:
After trying several patterns and approaches, we decided on an architecture that is based on Reactive Patterns and the MVVM concept.

· Quality Assurance:
To ensure the highest quality in our app, we use different levels of testing for every component. All features are developd in a TDD approach - yes also in a mobile app!!!
