How does a typical meetup with us look like? We usually meet at 6 pm in the castle of University of Mannheim. Each meetup we have two or more excellent talks by amazing guest speakers from around the globe. There is plenty of room for discussions, open exchange, and networking!

#1 Data Analysis and MapReduce with MongoDB and PyMongoby Alexander C. S. Hendorf, Königsweg

Abstract: The MongoDB aggregation framework provides a means to calculate aggregated values without having to use map-reduce. While map-reduce is powerful, it is often more difficult than necessary for many simple aggregation tasks, such as totaling or averaging field values.

See how to use the build-in data-aggregation-pipelines for averages, summation, grouping, reshaping. See how to work with documents, sub-documents, grouping by year, month, day, etc.

This talk will give many (live) examples how to make the most of your data with pymongo with a few lines of code.

#2 Big Data and Analytics - duo infernale? by Prof. Dr. Carsten Felden, Marmeladenbaum GmbH

Abstract: Big Data und Analytics haben sich als Begriffe in Wissenschaft und Praxis etabliert. In der Vielfalt der zunehmend verfügbaren Daten geht es dabei um einen speziellen Bereich der Analytics, entscheidungsrelevante Daten zu identifizieren und zu nutzen. Dabei werden Methoden des Data Mining genutzt, aber auch methodische Erweiterungen durchgeführt. Jedoch wird Fachlichkeit und methodische Kompetenz oftmals unterschätzt, so dass man sich zunächst im Klaren darüber sein muss, wie man im Spannungsfeld Big Data und Analytics agiert, um einen Mehrwert generieren zu können.

Bio: Prof. Dr. Carsten Felden ist ordentlicher Universitätsprofessor an der TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Sachsen). Er ist Dekan der Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Inhaber der Professur für ABWL, insbes. Informationswirtschaft/ Wirtschaftsinformatik. Darüber hinaus ist er Geschäftsführer der BI-Beratung Marmeladenbaum GmbH. Zentrale Forschungsthemen sind Text Mining, Analytics, Data Warehousing, XBRL sowie IT-Reifegradmodelle.
