GameDev Tech Talk: Intel RealSense and Unity 5 (Sebastian Dorda)

Intel's RealSense (https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/realsense-overview.html) is a close-range camera system & software SDK that enables face tracking, gesture recognition, voice recognition and a ton of other features that can be used for game input & feedback on a PC or laptop.

The team at Fairytale Distillery (http://www.fairytale-distillery.com/) has been invited by Intel to give the system a try and so they ran a 24-hour game jam using Unity 5 and the SDK to see what's possible. The game created during the jam is called "Space Mechanics" - it's a whimsical, two-player "space station repair simulator" inspired by Surgeon Simulator but way less polished. =D

Sebi (Tech Director @ Fairydist) will talk about the development process, explain the abilities (and the pitfalls) of the RealSense SDK and it's accompanying Unity toolkit. We will look at code examples from the jam, some Unity editor tools and we'll have 1 or 2 RealSense devices around to allow for some experimentation.

Since this meetup is supported by Intel, we'll be able to have free pizza at the event - sign up early so we can order enough pizza for everybody.

(Yes, this is the former Unity Usergroup, in case you are wondering!)

Welcome all game devs with a more or less technical background. We target developers and artists and everyone in between. Topics range from game engines specifics, programming techniques, rendering, AI to animation and back.

It is time to get together and share our ideas and expertise.

Every month we'll pick one topic for discussion. For this we'll need one person to prepare a short talk / introduction / session each month. After that we'll go into a full-on discussion and then degrade into beer/pizza afterwards.
