WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
The name of our group was changed following a Naming Contest among our members. The new name of our group is Grassroots Democratic Coalition. All other functions of our Meetup Group and the present membership remain the same. Our group was previously named "Dallas Democratic Party Meetup Group."
The Grassroots Democratic Coalition (GDC) welcomes D/FW area Democrats to join us. The GDC is the oldest and largest Democratic Party Meetup Group in Texas and the eighth largest in the nation. We have over 250 members as of January 2008. Inactive members were recently removed from a list of 312 members. We are growing every month. Like other political groups, including other Democratic groups, the GDC group's attendance at meetings declined following the 2004 General Elections. J. T. Price was asked to take over as Organizer in February 2005 with a goal of rejuvenating the organization and organizing the entire Dallas County area. Although our regular monthly meetings are not well attended at times, a recent poll found that over ninety-three percent of our members open our email messages and visit our site regularly. In addition, many of our members forward our messages to their friends and to other Democratic organizations. We email important messages and news to DFW area Democratic Party officials, elected officials and Democratic organizations. We estimate that as many as twenty-five hundred Democrats read our communications.
The GDC belongs to its members and not to any one individual, including the Organizer. The Organizer (Chairperson) consults with advisers, including an attorney who is familiar with legal matters relating to our type of organization and applicable laws. It is YOUR (the members) organization. We operate under rules of the National Meetup Group.
We work with other Democratic organizations and seek to have active workers in virtually every area voting precinct. You are asked to volunteer now to help in this gigantic effort. You may choose the precinct or area in which you wish to work. Or, you may volunteer to organize large areas, if you choose. Contact J. T. Price, Organizer at Video.AudioGuys@verizon.net to volunteer. Or, click on his name under the Blue Boy picture and send him an email via ?Contact me.?
Grassroots organizational work is as important as campaign finance in winning elections. Your work will be rewarded through knowing that you made a difference in winning Dallas County for the entire Democratic ticket. In addition, we plan to issue an official plaque to each of you honoring your efforts.
We are all-inclusive. We are known by the popularly used term "centrists" because we welcome every person to work for Democratic candidates. We welcome everyone who will work for Dallas County Democratic Party nominees in the 2008 General Election. Yes, this includes liberals, progressives, moderates, conservatives, independents and disillusioned former Republicans, etc. We ask only that members support Democratic nominees in the General Election.
We offer to work with all Dallas County Democrats without getting involved in party conflicts. We do not seek to vie for party control. Rather, we will work with the official Dallas County Democratic Party and other Dallas area Democratic Party organizations and D/FW area Democratic clubs, Democratic candidates groups, etc.
Our organization does not endorse individual candidates in the Democratic Primaries but we welcome each candidate to present his/her platform to our members. Individual members may endorse primary candidates of their choice and submit it to the GDC Organizer for posting on our web site. Members of our group that may become candidates during a Democratic Primary may cite his/her membership with the GDC without claiming an endorsement from the group.
Now that all of our 2006 countrywide Dallas County Democratic candidates have been elected, we invite them to our meetings and wish them well. We will endorse and work for local, state, and national Democratic nominees in the 2008 Dallas County General Elections.
We will restrain from passing controversial resolutions or committing acts that serve to divide Democrats and alienate voters. We work for unity within the Party and a winning effort. However, we do speak out on issues that are Democratic Party ideals.
This is an all out effort to win every elective office in the area. The time to start is now. We welcome members of other similar Democratic groups to join with us in our common goals.
