Four 20-Minute Astrology Lectures

Details

This month's meeting will feature four 20-minute lectures by different local astrologers on a variety of topics. You can read the lecture descriptions and bios for each speaker below:

-- Lecture 1 --

Ann Lipofsky

The Four Angles of the Birth Chart

A lively 15-18 minute lecture with 3-5 minutes for questions and answers on the four angles of the birth chart: the ascendant, nadir, descendant, and midheaven. Attendees will be introduced to what the basic meaning of each angle is as well as the significance of conjunctions at each angle of the chart. Participants will be able to look at charts in a fresh way, allowing them to quickly assess a natal chart for basic guiding factors of soul’s journey.

-- Lecture 2 --

Heidi Crimmin

The Astrology of Financial Fraud (and how to protect yourself under the current Jupiter-Neptune opposition)

Idealism is high during key points in the 13-year Jupiter-Neptune cycle, and in the financial realm this can manifest as irrational exuberance and speculative bubbles, leaving some vulnerable people overextended or defrauded. I've looked at the charts of hundreds of people caught up in financial frauds (both as perpetrators and victims), and I've noticed repeating patterns that show the possibility of fraud, trickery and corruption. Come learn how to identify the most common astrological "red flags" for financial fraud.

-- Lecture 3 --

Constance Wells

Moon/Uranus Conjunct: The Truth Movement

What does a natal Moon conjunct Uranus look like when expressed by the native? Maybe at this time, the transits provide optimal conditions for the expression of this aspect. We analyze several charts to illustrate some ‘classic’ Moon/Uranus conjunction expressions and several other charts that seem as if they too should be Moon/Uranus conjunctions, but are not.

-- Lecture 4 --

Chris Brennan

Fate, Free-Will, and the Mechanism Underlying Astrology

This lecture will explore the intersection between the separate philosophical issues of fate and free-will, and the mechanism underlying astrology that allows it to work. I will show how all astrologers essentially fall into one of four fundamental philosophical positions with respect to these topics, and how one's position can influence their views and practice of astrology.

Speaker Bios

Ann Lipofsky

Ann Lipofsky has had an interest in astrology for over 25 years, and recently formalized her study via a course with Mark Borax, Master Soul Level Astrologer of over 35 years. Her astrological lineage via Mr. Borax is through Ellias William Lonsdale, the creator of Star Genesis, who was a protegé of Marc Edmund Jones and Dane Rudhyar. Ann’s focus as an astrologer is on the soul. She holds space allowing her clients to discover who they are at the depth that soul longs for.

Constance Wells

Constance Wells, MS, designs and builds computer systems for corporate Information Technology Divisions, as a day job. In her spare time, she studies, tests, and investigates real world applications of astrology. This amounts to 50 years of using her spare time to work with astrology. She comes from a family where members exercise various divination tools, such as astrology. Both her mother and father were astrologers and she carries on the family tradition.

Heidi Crimmin

Heidi Crimmin earned a B.A. in Humanities from McGill University (Montreal) and a certificate and diploma from London's Faculty of Astrological Studies in 2006. She enjoys astrological research, writing, consulting and conference-going, and is always happy to share her penetrating Mercury-in-Scorpio insights with fellow astrologers.

Chris Brennan

Chris is a professional astrologer from Denver, Colorado. He was educated at Kepler College, where he focused on cross-cultural comparisons between the astrological traditions. He is the former President of the Association for Young Astrologers, and the former Research Director of the National Council for Geocosmic Research. Website: http://ChrisBrennanAstrologer.com .

Length of the Meeting

The meeting will start promptly at 3:00 PM. If you are planning on attending then please get there before we begin.

Each lecture will last for 20 minutes, with time for transitions in between, and a break in the middle of the meeting. After the lectures are over people are free to hang out and socialize in the cafe.

Please note that the Mercury Cafe serves brunch earlier in the day, so if anyone wants to come by early, around 1:00 PM or so, there will be some other astrologers there to meet and connect with.

Lecture Fee

The fee for attending the meeting is $10.

Parking

If you can find a spot to park on the street then it is free, although there is a two hour limit on some spots. We recommend using the parking lot right across from the Mercury Cafe on the other side of California Street, which only charges $2 for parking on weekends.
