Paul, the next one will be a return to form. This was a small outing since it coincided with the date. It is a very rare occurrence. I assure you that next month will involve sitting with various people with multiple geek-filled topics.

If it helps put things in perspective, it is to learn to keep pitches for ideas succinct and to the point. In technology, that can be valuable. I can see the frustration.

This was my first attendance. I based my interest on what the group description of meetings are like. Any web technologies would have been of interest to me. I didn't know what Ignite was - I figured it was some cool whiz-bang web technology-related thing. You're disparaging me because I didn't do the extra work to MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE this would be a gathering to learn about and discuss technology? Wow. No too nice of a welcome for a newcomer who still was looking forward to the next meeting.

The Ignite web site had the agenda, list of speakers, and what they were going to speak about posted for some time. Anyone could look at the agenda and see if it was for them or not. Do people look at agendas before going to an event? Do people take responsibility for their own behaviors any more? (rhetorical sarc)

Gottcha - just wanted to set the public record a little straighter.

BTW - this meetup has always been free-form discussion, question-and-answer, 'have you seen the new . . .'. No presentations: other meetups do that. ymmv

Context is everything. That was not what I came for.

Ignite is more about geek life outside of hard core technical stuff - which is everywhere.

The technical stuff is always built by people, so everything we do is very strongly influenced by our social interactions. Everything Kelly Tidd said 'Bitches Love Candles' applies to the issues of lack of women in the tech fields. Helene Kwong's talk applies directly to our presumptive prejudices (reminded me of when I asked Mark Yu if he was from Tai Wan or main land China: was Brooklyn!) etc!

The only technical presentation (and really quasi-technical at that) was on "how to write a blog that doesn't suck". Other presentations on "how to pick up a man", or "pop culture in Japan" - not at all what I came for. I left at intermission.

What the hell? I was expecting some good content sharing of some awesome technologies - not a bunch of random musings on this and that. Granted, the format and topics were kinda interesting, but not what I came for. I left at intermission.
