Howdy all from John -

For those of you who couldn't make it, here's a quick rundown on what some of us chatted about:

  • Learning JavaScript - JS is a great introductory language to learn plus it's used more and more as technologies like Flash fade out. One of my favorite beginner online classes for JS is at learn.appendto.com
  • Greg mentioned JS Fiddle which is great for experimenting with code.
  • For advanced JS coders, there are tons of libraries and frameworks like Ember or Backbone.js

We also had an interesting discussion on salaries for tech jobs. You can check out Glassdoor to see what you should be making. I'd like to be making $250k per year.

We had a nice discussion on media queries and how and why you should be using them.

We also talked about some great frameworks to get you started building your websites, such as:

I'm sure I missed recapping half of what was discussed -- feel free to ping me if forgot something important. Many thanks to all who made it and I hope to see you all next month.

John
