This is the Bay Area alliance of cupcakes take the cake originally started by Cheryl of http://cupcakeblog.com.
Bake-and-Taste Meetups
The first meetup was great. A bunch of us met in a park with our homemade cupcakes and tasted away. We caused quite a scene! The plan is to have one of these meet-ups every season or 4 times a year - two in San Francisco, one on the Peninsula or San Jose, and one in the East Bay. These meetups will be hosted in areas that can accommodate an unlimited (or at least very large) number of participants. But if anyone of the members wants to spawn a spontaneous event, let the organizer know. There are no hard and fast rules, just some basic goals.
Mini-Meetups at a Bakery Near You
The goal was to have one mini-meetup a month at some bakery alternating between the various general areas around the bay. The main criterion for choosing a location is its ability to accommodate a potentially large number of simultaneous visitors. However, that should not scare anyone off to suggest any bakery that makes cupcakes that you've been wanting to try. The odds of all 350+ of us showing up is pretty slim, and we'll always double-check with the venue before launching hordes of cupcake eaters their way unawares.
Recipe Exchanges and Virtual Bake-Offs
Since most of us are multi-taskers, some of our meetups will be virtual. For example, recipe exchanges via the Message Board or virtual bake-offs where members show off their variation of a recipe or theme by posting pics of their creations. While this may not seem very meetup-y, it may be a good way to keep the community active even when we can't actually show up live and in person.
Open to Suggestions
If you have any ideas for an event, live or virtual, or any other ideas as to how to keep this community lively, please feel free to join and post on the Message Board or email the organizer directly by clicking the "Contact Us" link on the group home page.
