Monitoring Tools

It is difficult to keep up with all of the tools available for application and server monitoring, but it is useful to understand what the more popular tools are and how they are used.

Speakers will give quick presentations (5-15 minutes), providing a very brief overview of the tools they use and then dive into the details for one of the tools.

Tentative speakers:

Dmitriy Samovskiy & Chris Brinley, Morningstar: Graphite

Brian Henerey, SitterCity: Tasseo and GDash

Matt Kemp & Joshua Buss, BrightTag: Conduit and Glitter (Graphite ecosystem)

Brian Devlin, Enova Financial: Zenoss

Jeff Ramnani, DRW Trading: Sensu

We are still looking more more speakers, so if you are interested please add a comment to this meetup.

Just to provide some possible tools to cover (far from complete):

  • nagios,zenoss,zabbix,ganglia,munin,cacti
  • monit, god, bluepill
  • graphite
  • graphiti,graphene,gdash,descartes,tasseo
  • collectd,diamond
  • statsd
  • sensu

Please RSVP with your full name if your meetup handle is different so we can add you to the list for building security. Thanks!

I really enjoyed what I got to see of the presentations, but kept getting pulled away to work. Were links posted for slide decks?

    June 30, 2013

    • Jerry C.

No links to the slide decks yet. I should have them posted next week.

Great talks and thanks for listening! Totally forgot to mention this while I was up there and this is perfect topic to shamelessly throw out there I'm hiring for a monitoring engineer! http://bit.ly/112bgIR

Look forward to the next meetup.

I don't want to speak for Chris and Dmitriy, but Morningstar would be ok with open sourcing our Graphite stuff. Keep an eye on https://github.com/Morningstar.

Thanks everyone! I was inspired by the Morning star talk and would love to help with this idea of graphite as a db. Thanks to those of you who came out afterwards to New Line as well.
