AGENDA
6:00 Intros
6:15 Elasticsearch: For search and beyond
Elasticsearch is an open-source search and analytics engine with over 20 million downloads. This presentation will introduce you to this wonderful piece of technology. We'll start by looking at some of its use cases, capabilities, and key concepts. Then there will be a demonstration of several Elasticsearch APIs to illustrate it's power and versatility. And finally, we'll take a peek under the hood and learn a bit about how clustering, indexing, and searching actually work.
7:00 Analyzing time-series data with Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana
Logs come in a variety of formats that can often be difficult to parse easily. But they all have one thing in common — a timestamp — making them a form of time-series data.
In this presentation, we'll look at how the power of Elasticsearch can be combined with the convenience of Logstash and Kibana to easily ingest and visualize time-series data such as logs. We'll also take brief detours into other related open-source projects, Logstash Forwarder and Packetbeat.
Presented by Shaunak Kashyap from Elastic
Shaunak Kashyap has been working as a backend developer in the Internet software industry for over a decade. Some of his more interesting past gigs include building a poker search and analytics engine; a system for tracking and analyzing the jail population in Louisville, Kentucky; and ground software to command and control earth-imaging satellites.
Today, Shaunak works as a Developer Advocate at Elastic, the makers of Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana.
