***Help Our Vets In Denver***Many of the veterans of will be descending on Denver, to make sure that those assembled at the Democratic Convention know where we stand on the issues. Our veterans will be doing TV and radio, attending events, and speaking to leaders, all to carry our message on matters of importance to our military and veterans.
*Each of our veterans is paying their own way to Denver, because they believe so strongly in what we all stand for. Will you help them defray some of the costs they incur while out in Denver?
*Your donation will help our vets with some of the costs out in Denver, so they won?t need to pay everything out of pocket. For example, if you can donate $30, that will cover the cost of transportation for one veteran around the city. It might not seem like a lot to you, but to our vets, this means a lot.
*Again, we?re all excited to be able to convene in Denver, to make sure some of the biggest leaders in this country know where we stand. The level of commitment that our veterans are showing is tremendous, and I hope you?ll match that commitment with a donation of your own.

* REQUEST ~ A Need for a Host Family**

Dear Friends-
I, recently, received an urgent request from Kay Rivers who I know through the San Diego County Community Coalition. It is the emergency need for a host family for a 16 year old student (a violinist) from Belgium, named Jonathan.

The sponsoring organization is Cultural Homestay International. You may learn more about them from their website at Normally there is a lot more planning time for something like this, however the host family intended for Jonathan has had an emergency that will prevent them from being his host.
If you are interested in hosting this student, or know someone who might be, could you please be in touch with Kay Rivers, at[masked]-8113., and she will be able to help you connect with the organization and the student..
Yours for a successful search, John

New DFA Night School Features!

FROM DFA NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS > Bryan Hageny-Deputy Training Director

With only 77 days until the election, it's important to have as many resources available to activists and candidates as possible. To that end, I am writing to announce the launch of a brand new interactive Night School webpage. Click on the link below to see.

The new Night School web page includes interactive audio and video presentations of every Night School session to date. Presentations are arranged according to their appropriate Night School semester, and arranged by topic title. Once again all of these materials are completely free to view at your convenience.

We also want to make sure you don't miss out on this month's brand new Night School training. It's taking place this Wednesday, August 20th at 8:30pm Eastern time and our focus will be on Online Organizing: Past, Present and Future. We'll be joined for the hour by one of the pioneers of the Netroots movement, Zack Exley. Zack has directed the internet campaigns for Howard Dean, and the Kerry-Edwards campaign. Sign up to listen live here:

Finally, stay tuned for more info about DFA Night School in September. We'll be doing Night School every week to bring you the skills to Get Out The Vote for your candidates.

Thanks for all you do.

Dear Obama Supporter,

You can almost feel the heat and vibrations beginning to emanate from atop the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, as Democrats from all over the country begin to converge on the Mile High City for the privilege of coronating Barack Obama next week. Many local supporters are flying and even driving to Denver to witness the glory of Barack's historical acceptance speech. But as you'll see below, we have plenty to do here as we ramp up for the big push to November! Sign up as a precinct captain or to register voters, watch Obama's acceptance speech with the SD Democratic Party or at Winston's, or come out to show John McCain that San Diego is Obama Country!

***Watch the Convention with Us!***

When Barack Obama accepts our Party's presidential nomination in less than two weeks, Democrats across the country will cheer the official beginning of the general election campaign and the countdown to the most important vote in a generation.

The main event in San Diego will feature a broadcast from the Democratic National Convention, appearances by our local candidates, light refreshments, and a cash bar. There is no charge to attend, but donations to cover costs will be welcome.

Local news media will likely check in to see how Democrats here are responding to the convention, so it's important to show our energy and strength! Please join us and bring family and friends.
When: Thursday, August 28 - 6p-9p
Where: Eagles Lodge, 3848 Centre St., San Diego (92103)
RSVP: You can call (858)[masked] or e-mail [address removed] with any questions.

Here's a great way to help Barack in crucial states

Did you know that San Diego has a wonderful fundraising initiative that has been supplying signs, buttons and bumper stickers to both San Diego, and crucial primary and swing states? This initiative has been able to take our local donations and leverage them into tons of Obama signs, buttons, bumper stickers and many other Obama items. The money raised by our initiative has helped the national campaign by providing Obama items to important states that haven?t been able to muster the financial resources for that purpose. (It has been a godsend to some very important primary states.)

This is where we need you. With the general campaign gearing up very soon, we need to quickly gear up our resources to provide all the Obama paraphernalia possible where the campaign really needs it. As you well know; it doesn?t take large donations to make an impact. What it does take is YOUR donation, no matter what size.

RSVP: To make a donation go to

If you have any questions, or want more information about the initiative, please contact Andrea Grant at [address removed].

Precinct Leaders: Pick Your Neighborhood!

Contact Dorothy if you would like to contact voters in your own neighborhood or one of your own choosing. The Obama campaign is working with the San Diego County Party GO Team, a countywide organization of over 600 Precinct Leaders. Precinct Leaders may choose to go door-to-door, make phone calls or host house parties in an effort to identify supporters, persuade the undecided and register new voters. Training and supplies will be provided. If you were a Precinct Captain for Obama in the primary, we highly encourage you to join the GO Team. They use Votebuilder, the same computer system you learned to use for the California primary.
