Re: [dfa-23] Great article by our very own Tommie Watson,...

What an excellent article!
I must add, though, that as a pro-life FDR/Stevenson Democrat, I have often felt marginalized, "disfellowshipped," and excommunicated by the Party I've loved and worked so hard for, for well over 45 years.
Tommie, I must take issue with you on the subject of "Roe."
How long is the Democratic Party going to abandon good pro-union, anti-war, pro-civil rights, pro-environment, liberal progressive Democrats like myself to the right wing, where we are not comfortable, are not meant to be?
I walked precincts with my little daughters, made phone calls, licked envelopes, babysat other people's children so they could walk precincts, to elect people like George Brown, Jr. (remember him?) and other good people. I worked my heart out for Eugene McCarthy, George McGovern and many, many others. And all that work forgotten, when the Party decided the only "choice" for Democrats is abortion.
Tommie, I don't know how many children you've carried, born and held in your arms. Which of them are expendable?
How many desperate teens, women facing a crisis pregnancy have you counseled? I've been a crisis pregnancy counselor for 34 years. I've worked with young girls, young boys, men and women who have been through the abortion experience. The pain, guilt, sadness, self-sabotage is unimaginable. There are physical consequences of abortion, too.
I had a great mentor. She is best clinician and the wisest woman I've ever known. She began her career by counseling death camp emigres to this Country. She listened carefully as they taught her how the European Holocaust began, with the killing in Germany of the "useless eaters," the unwanted, the unlovely, the imperfect.
If Democrats are to win elections again, to put an end to war, to reclaim the high ground, they must move away from the abortion industry and embrace life as the best "choice" available to the father, mother, baby and the "village."
