Don't delay - Help get rid of DeLay

Good Folks,

Common Cause is now sponsoring a drive to help get rid of Tom DeLay, the ethics-challenged Republican Speaker of the House. The article below contains links to a recent spate of editorials nationwide calling for his resignation.

You can host a house party to inform your friends about his most recent misdeeds through a national telephone conference call. C.C. will provide kits to host the party and a code for the conference call once you sign-up.

If you feel as strongly as I do about the vile conduct and gangster attitude of this misfit in Congress, please consider hosting a party. We need to rid the House of this pest whose meager credentials for serving there include the fact that he himself one owned a pest control company and the fact that his hard-knucles style has earned him the name of "Hammer", a name often used among prison inmates to designate the worst among them.

"Live by the sword, .......". This thug's removal will send a warning to others in his party tempted to behave the same way.

wink Don Hess

Dear Don,

As Chellie Pingree wrote in her email to you last week, our strength and resolve to clean up the ethics crisis in the House of Representatives comes from you. Your response to our effort has been incredible. Thank you for your support. Our efforts to expose the collapsed ethics process in DeLay's House are working. Four major newspapers in Texas have now come out with scathing editorials criticizing Tom DeLay (R-TX) for his pattern of ethical misbehavior. The list of editorials is piling up and includes major newspapers from conservative states such as Alabama, Colorado, and Utah.

Let us continue our fight to restore integrity in DeLay's House. Please consider hosting a house party on Tuesday, April 12:

Invite your friends, family and neighbors to your living room and educate them on how the Republican leadership shut down the ethics process in the House to protect DeLay, and why it is imperative the process not only be restored, but improved. DeLay and other members face allegations that they took foreign trips illegally paid for by lobbyists and/or foreign governments, and those questions must be answered.

Join us in organizing house parties coast to coast. The parties will be connected via a live conference call at 9:00 pm EST with Common Cause President Chellie Pingree and author and radio talk show host Jim Hightower, the Lone Star firebrand from DeLay's home state. Chellie and Jim will brief you on the latest developments in congressional ethics and discuss what you can do to lobby your Congressperson to help resolve the crisis. Hosting a party will give you an easy opportunity to invite members of your community into your house and share materials such as our talking points on DeLay's pattern of ethical misbehavior, legislative background on the ethics mess in the House, and other information you can use to lobby your Member of Congress in district meetings or town hall forums.

Hosting this party can be simple. All you have to do:

Sign up to host a party on April 12 by clicking on this link: http://www.partyhostc...

Download a house party kit, which includes all the materials you'll need to host a party, as well as background info on the ethics crisis: http://www.commoncaus...

Invite your friends and neighbors for an informal and informative gathering
Once you sign up through our online party center we will provide you the codes to dial into the conference call either by email or phone by next Tuesday. These house parties are great opportunities to educate yourself and others on this ethics issue and become community leaders in our movements for a clean, honest, and transparent government. Chellie and Jim will also talk about steps you can take to generate pressure on our congressional leaders at the local level.

As always, if you have any comments or suggestions, or would like to give us your feedback on our efforts to clean up the ethics process in Congress, please make sure to post them on our blog.

Thank you again for all you do for Common Cause.

Please excuse me for my excess of enthusiasm in writing the previous article. Delay is only the majority leader (as if that weren't bad enough). Dennis Hastert is the Speaker.
