Dear Friends, Patriots, Progressives, & Folks
We hope you are already planning to attend our Dec 3rd Holiday gathering. This meeting will we be a low key and relaxed type assembly? more like a party actually. And we will forward more information about that meeting later, but we do want to alert you to a project we have decided to take on where you can get ready to help between now and then! We will be gathering stocking stuffers of needed items to brighten the Christmas time for an armed service unit stationed in Afghanistan. This unit consists of 28 people so be as generous as you can. And no, you don?t need that Ipod player, live with that ear thingy till your birthday!
Item's they have specifically requested are: Toilet Paper with Aloe (best I can tell, Kleenex, and Charmin have such a product, though I am sure with a little research and shopping ya'll can find some others brands too) and Blistex lip balm, especially with the roller ball. They also need any kind of personal care items from soap, disposable razors, shaving soaps and gels, tissues, foot lotions, hand lotions, tooth paste, toothbrushes, mouth wash, deodorant, sunscreen and shampoo? and whatever you can think of that I have left out. Soap on a rope???
On the lighter side, they would enjoy snack foods, microwavable's, like popcorn or hot cereals. Please remember Afghanistan is about 7263 miles from my house and has a temp range from Sub Zero to 120 degrees. That Chocolate bar probably won't make it. That big bag of potato chips will probably be crumbs after that trip and please steer clear of glass containers. Consider: non perishables, vacuum packed, dried or dehydrated fruit, beef jerky, pretzels, snack bars, dried soups mixes, crackers, nuts, party mixes, cereals, special coffee, tea, powdered fruit drinks... use your imagination? how about a big box of brown sugar or maybe some Christmas salt water taffy? If you were sitting out on a cold mountain on Christmas day, what would you want someone to send you (other than a plane ticket home). Go out and get it, and then get some more!
Make this your Christmas shopping priority; you know we don?t need much of anything really. Please do what you can to add a bit of cheer to the long lonely days for those who are bearing our load for us. Bring your contributions to the meeting and we will see that it gets to the kids over there.
