Hi! This group is designed to gather individuals interested in any of the following: - fostering service dogs in training (these volunteers are the foundation of our program and we treasure them dearly) - seeking a service dog for themselves or a loved one - looking to train their own dog as a service dog - individuals interested in the applications of service dogs for psychiatric and other conditions & individuals willing to volunteer to help our program! Diggity Dogs Service Dogs provides psychiatric, mobility and medical alert dogs to disabled individuals. To do so, we rely on the support of volunteers in the community that foster the service dogs in training and raise puppies in their homes. We are about to commence with our next series of training sessions for fosters and puppy raisers, as well as volunteer trainers and I thought that, if there was any interest from the group, we could gather somewhere pleasant locally for a few drinks or food (or a dog play day) and I could present some information about our program, what psychiatric service dogs do and how they are trained. The demand for service dogs is overwhelming right now, causing almost every organization that trains them to have 3-5 year waiting lists. As a result, we are growing rapidly and would welcome any and all volunteers willing to help our cause. We desperately need more foster volunteers, as our the amount of applicants we can be helping at the moment is limited by the fact that we need more foster volunteers! Their assistance truly changes lives! Our organization is also about to receive a significant amount of media coverage and we would like to find a few fosters that would be willing to be featured in a series of articles and photo spreads that follows a group of dogs from rescue to placement. (Almost all of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters.) It would be great to find fosters that are enthusiastic about participating and are willing to allow an article from the Greenfield Recorder (newspaper) to regularly monitor the progress of the dog in their care. Diggity Dogs is also planning several dog-centric fundraising events at the moment and we could greatly benefit from more help with planning, promoting and administration side of things. Anyone with experience in this area would be so valued! We hope to make the process and the event a rollicking good time for dog lovers in Western Mass. Fundraising is so essential for our organization, as many of the applicants are either on disability or simply unable to afford to pay for a service dog, yet are in desperate need of assistance. Our fundraising efforts allow us to provide dogs to these individuals at a considerable discount or free of charge. We do not deny applicants based on their inability to pay. Rather, we work with them to raise funds in order to cover the costs of providing them with a service dog. For more information, please check out our site at: indogswetrust.org
