Developer Ergonomics

Get exposed to a wide range of workflows and tools for developing Django apps. Hear from some experienced Django developers and learn some new tips and tricks for speeding up your dev and deployment process.

The format of this meetup will be optimized for covering a very wide range of tools and best practices. Each speaker will have no more than 10 minutes and can talk about each topic/tool for no more than 2 minutes. The goal is to be quick, fun, and useful and give you some ideas about where you can learn more.

Speakers are:
-----------------------
Ted Tieken - Windows based dev, sublime text editor, virtual box, deploying to webfaction and heroku

Zak Fallows - customizing manage.py shell, local_settings.py, git-based deployment, automatic versioning

David Quinn - continuous integration, deployment, geodjango

Brian Dant - Cheap standing desk, zsh/oh-my-zsh/iTerm, Vim for Python / Django development, quick and dirty "Scrum" for small team using (free) Trello

Nate Aune - virtualenvwrapper, sublime text plugins for python development

One speaker mentioned a cheap whiteboard material he used for his home office, does anyone remember what that material was?

I'm developing on Ubuntu, using gedit. I know I should at least find an editor that will match up HTML tags! Does emacs have a mode for this? What about the mix of HTML and Django and JavaScript?

Bill -- There is a python-django.el file on the wiki https://code.djangopro... which has a django-html-mumamo-mode. Also once your hands get tired of constantly clicking the ctrl key gvim will be waiting :)

My copy of emacs [masked] inside Aquamacs) seems to be matching up both html tags and embedded Javascript punctuation. The mode says HTML Helper Spc Fill.
