Show Some Spine! Quick AJAX apps with Django and Backbone.js

Consumer feedback is clear: the request/response loop is fast enough only when the server is "localhost" and not even always then. AJAX UI can make apps feel snappy and responsive, reduce the network and rendering lag, and in general provide an application a polished feel. The path to AJAX isn't always clear with Django, though.
At Compete, we've been using Backbone.js with our Django app to build slick new user experiences. Our evening's activity will feature an overview of Backbone.js, a discussion of the Django integration, and a loosely-guided exercise where we all build some relatively simple MVC AJAX apps. Peppered in and amongst this will be some lessons we've learned and practices we have cultivated.
Our plan is to work through a simple address book app in our talk, followed by a guided exercise to extend this to handle contact tracking, multiple information sets for each contact, and maybe other things. Suggestions are welcome!
You must RSVP so that Compete can put your name into their security system. If you aren’t on the list, you can just say you're going to Compete.
