Sure your HTML5 has Canvas and Web Sockets, but does it Sparkle™?

While the world has been whining about old browsers and the all-too-slow death of non-semantic markup, Paul Irish has been making sh!t happen with HTML5 Boilerplate , the death of IE CSS hacks and all kinds of ways to make awesomely-coded new web sites Sparkle™ more than a freshly polished border-radius. Even seasoned, up-to-date web devs will learn new tricks to modernize coding styles and add some extra Sparkle™ to your web sites at our latest Meetup.

Paul Irish is coming to HUGE on Tuesday, July 5th to give an address on: The State of HTML5: Sparkle Edition™.

Come celebrate independence from plug-ins and repressive browsers as Paul outlines what HTML5 features are ready for production and what’s coming up on the horizon. He will demonstrate some good ol’ fashioned Yankee ingenuity that will prepare you to build the next generation of web apps.

Great meetup. Informative and Fun at the same time. Paul Irish breezed through tons of examples of what is and will be possible in our web browsers in the coming years.

Great event guys. Good beers (SIXPOINT!!!), food and lots of space to watch Paul's talk. The tweet scoreboard was a nice feature too. I spammed the hell out of my followers, but most were interested in what was going on.

The talk was a bit more ground-level and basic than I was expecting, but Paul covered a broad range of HTML5 capabilities and experimental features. It's really exciting to see all of these developments happening from a guy who's on the front-lines.

I only wish he had spent a bit more time being agressive about the role of designers / developers in adapting hacks and workarounds to extend functionality to hobbled browsers. (Polyfills, Modernizr and etc.) I did try to challenge him on the stance, which he took a cautious, but great approach to: Look at your analytics, and really see what's harming the performance and experience of the site.

Nice! I think we all know where he was going with that answer.

Exciting stuff though. Great event guys.

Hi Doug/Ben, we will be capturing via both still and video and will be making the video available after the event, but you are welcome to bring your own camera as well.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
