The city has committed to making the .nyc TLD a reality and the wheels of government are starting to turn. (See our Tale of Two Cities (http://www.coactivate.org/projects/campaign-for.nyc/blog/2012/04/28/a-tale-of-two-cities-newsnyc-vs-newsnyc/) for an update.)

Our attention is returning to the neighborhood domain names - Astoria.nyc, BrooklynHeights.nyc, Chelsea.nyc, etc., and how they are developed.

We've several wiki pages on the subject (http://www.coactivate.org/projects/campaign-for.nyc/traditional-neighborhood-names), one of which links to an informative dotNeighborhoods Case Study by the Hunter College Graduate School of Urban Affairs. And we've an ongoing research collaboration with the New York Internet Society and Wikimedia-NY, see NYCwiki.org (http://nycwiki.org).

On May 17 we're meeting at the Neighborhood Preservation Center to:

discuss governance - the Trust for Neighborhood Names and the local dotNeighborhood name ~ JacksonHeights.nyc formalize a plan move toward engaging neighborhood activists city-wide. See the latest agenda here: http://www.coactivate.org/projects/campaign-for.nyc/dotneighborhoods-meeting-report-may-17-2012 .

** If you would like to attend but do not subscribe to meetup, send an email with your intention to info@connectingnyc.org.
