Kirtan at The Studio

<p>Kirtan is a yoga practice. It is used in these three overlapping paths: Bhakti Yoga, often called the yoga of devotion, Nada Yoga, the yoga of sound vibrations and their effects, and Mantra Yoga. Mantra literally means "the force which liberates the mind". To all of you Cleveland-drumming-lovers, you might want to try kirtan.  Please join us at the Studio on west 10th Street in the flats for an hour long meditation with Vandanam featuring Beth Gatchell, Eric Vogt, and George Shumway.

oh no, this is NOT silent meditation. Vandanam is a fantastic kirtan band who offer lyric sheets and an explanation for the chants and offer simple enough call and response chants so that even the beginner can feel comfortable.

Some people take it in while sitting and some move around and dance, either will feel right at home! If you haven't heard Beth Gatchell's amazingly unique voice singing, it is definitely worth checking out.

However, I got an email that THIS kirtan for the 5th has been moved to the 2nd Sunday of January. Some members of the band are in Columbus playing with Narada and Third Eye Candy at Yoga on High. They are coming back tomorrow and playing at the location below:

Narada Wise and the 3rd Eye Candy Band
    At LifeSource Yoga in Akron
    Sunday, 1/5/14, 6:30-8:30p
Cost: $12 in advance, $15 at the door
Address: 300 N Cleveland Massillon Rd, Akron, OH 44333
    Contact: (330)[masked] [masked] .

My wife and I are interested, but we want to understand what is meant by one hour of meditation. We have attended other kirtans, and those are mostly chanting (which can be considered a form of meditation). If we would sit still in for an hour, I think we will pass on this event.
