DrupalCafé 22 september - Usability for Site Builders and Administrators

Deze keer hebben we twee presentaties. Antje Lorch (@ifrik (https://twitter.com/ifrik)) geeft de aftrap, met een presentatie over Usability voor Site Builders and Administrators. Antje heeft voor DrupalCon Dublin een core conversation ingediend en wij krijgen de sneak preview. De admin interface van Drupal moet gebruikers de mogelijkheid bieden om sites te bouwen, van eenvoudige one pagers tot ambitieuze digitale "ervaringen" - maar is daar momenteel niet goed toe in staat. Antje heeft concrete voorbeelden van slechte usability voor site builders en de onderliggende redenen, zodat die besproken kunnen worden.

De tweede spreker is Ben Stallings uit Kansas, VS. Hij geeft een presentatie over de Migrate module. Deze module is een krachtig framework voor het importeren van data in Drupal sites vanuit verschillende bronnen, waaronder CSV, XML, andere MySQL databases, en andere Drupal sites. Ben heeft zijn Drupal consultancy bedrijf gespecialiseerd in het helpen van klanten om grote hoeveelheden data te importeren met behulp van Migrate. Hij zal zowel de ingebouwde UI als custom code demonstreren in Drupal 7, en de core functionaliteit in Drupal 8.

Bereikbaarheid

Ons kantoor bevindt zich op Janskerkhof 16 in Utrecht. Er stoppen diverse buslijnen vanaf het Centraal Station op de halte Janskerkhof; steek het plein over langs de kerk en je vindt nummer 16 rechts naast café Hofman. We hebben ook een uitstekend fietsenrek vlak voor de deur. Ga door de poort de binnenplaats op en bel aan bij de groene deur. Parkeren met de auto kan ook, maar de parkeertarieven op het Janskerkhof zijn de hoogste van Utrecht.

We have two presentations again. First up, Antje Lorch (@ifrik (https://twitter.com/ifrik)) will give a presentation about usability for site builders and administrators. She submitted a proposal for a core conversation for DrupalCon Dublin, which got accepted. The Drupal administration interface should allow users to build sites ranging from simple storefronts to ambitious digital experiences - but currently it's not up to the job. Antje will give concrete examples of bad usability for site builders, and some of the underlying reasons so we can discuss how to solve this.

Second, Ben Stallings (visiting from Kansas, USA) will give a talk about the Migrate module. Migrate module provides a powerful framework for importing data into Drupal sites from a variety of sources, including CSV, XML, other MySQL databases, and other Drupal sites. Ben has specialized his Drupal consultancy on helping clients import massive quantities of data using Migrate. He will demonstrate both the built-in UI and custom code in Drupal 7, and the core functionality in Drupal 8.

How to get there

Our office is at the Janskerkhof 16 in Utrecht. There are several busses from Utrecht Central Station that stop at the Janskerkhof. From the bus stop, walk across the square past the church and you'll find number 16 to the right of café Hofman. We also have a very excellent "fietsenrek" right in front of the gate. Go through the gate onto the courtyard and ring the bell at the green door. Parking your car is possible, but the parking rates at the Janskerkhof are the highest of Utrecht.
