Mt Lee and The Hollywood Sign! The Back Way!

Most everyone goes to the Hollywood sign via the canyon/fire roads, but where's the fun in that?! We're gonna go the back way! We'll be hiking the through the heart of Griffith Park on the wild and mysterious (okay, maybe not so mysterious) foot trails instead of roads whenever possible. This is a great hike full of nice scenery and cool views, including a spectacular 360* view from the top of Mt. Lee right above the Hollywood sign.

This a medium level, approximately 6-7 mile hike gaining about 1200-1500 feet in elevation. Anyone in relatively good shape should be able to handle it, but you will get a workout. Round trip time should be around 4 hours depending on the... SQUIRREL!... pace of the group.

Hiking shoes or boots are recommended, but good cross trainers will work. Make sure to bring water and a hat for shade if you're fair skinned. Optional accessories include sunscreen, long sleeve shirt, camera, munchies, etc. And dogs are welcome.

Park in Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round lot #2 and we'll meet on the North end by the steps this time. For those of you that aren't familiar with the park, there's a map in the files section showing the location. I'll send my cell number to those coming the night before, so if you can't find us or are running a little late you can call and we'll wait a few minutes for you.
