How are you all? All well and good I hope.
The weather this summer has been rubbish. It is official. The number of days this last month which have remained dry, I could count on one hand. What happened to the clear unbroken blue skies? Glorious sunshine and a warm breeze to ruffle you hair? BBQs in the park, drinks out on the balcony, or an evening stroll along the river to watch the sunset? Yeah ok, we are in Northern Europe and not in the Mediterranean, but I’m sure it was like that last year, wasn’t it? My memory is not as good as it once was. Anyway, despite my moaning I have some hope that it will turn itself around and will be a scorcher until the end of September. Yeah, right! I hear you cry! Actually it is not that bad, between downpours there has been blue sky and sunshine I hope that you have been able to enjoy it!
Our next Meetup BBQ event will be towards the end of August on the 21st, fingers crossed the late summer will bathe us in sunshine for that event. We will send out another invitation soon for the BBQ, but I just wanted to give you early notice so you can put it into your diary.
Before then we have our normal monthly Meetup on the Thursday 18th August from 8pm at O'Reillys Irish Bar on Marktplatz. As always, we welcome new members who have recently arrived in Düsseldorf or joined our group, we hope you have a great time in this town! The Meetup is a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world who have come to live, work or study in the Düsseldorf area. It is so easy to join, it’s free and everyone is welcome! Just turn up, buy a drink and introduce yourself to fellow members. We look forward to meeting you on Thursday 18th and hope this will be one of your many Meetups in 2011.
As our group grows, so does our Meetup event, so please feel free to move around the complete bar upstairs. If it gets a little crowded there is always the covered seating area outside. In fact if the weather is kind we can of course stay outside.
So as usual I must say thank you to all the regulars who make the newcomers feel so welcome, and thanks also to Dany and all the staff at O'Reillys for serving us all night!
We hope to see you all on the 18th!
All the best,
The Düsseldorf Expat Meetup Team
