Düsseldorf Expat February Meetup :: 23rd February :: O'Reillys Irish Bar

Hello everyone! How are you all?

So I have a dilemma, do I write the traditionally long invite or do I write a short and succinct version? Tradition dictates that it is long and meandering, mentioning the weather and upcoming events amongst other things. Alternatively we could break with tradition and just state the facts. A way round this dilemma would be to put the facts at the beginning and then carry on with some news and views…

February Meetup date has changed!
The new date is: Thursday 23rd February
Same location: O'Reillys Irish Bar on Marktplatz
Same Start time: 20:00
Same requirements: Bring a smile and an open mind!

As you may have noticed the Meetup is not the usual third Thursday of the month but the fourth Friday this February. Despite the immensely popular event that is Meetup, we cannot argue with the heavyweight event that is Karneval, so we have postponed the Meetup a week. This actually means you can party like never before during Karneval, rest a couple of days, maybe pop into work or study something, then get back into the social scene at the Meetup! Everyone’s a winner!

If you don’t know already, Karneval is absolute mayhem. A time of the year when locals, tourists and expats alike go crazy in fancy dress fuelled by alcohol and the musical phenomenon known as Schlager. Despite what people from Köln say the Düsseldorf Karneval is fantastic, the fun starts on Thursday 16th with Altweiber and culminates with the parade on Rosenmontag. We wish you luck and a quick recovery so you can attend the Meetup!

I would like this opportunity to welcome two new members to our Meetup organisation team, Babette from the Netherlands and Eric from France. Both young professionals working in the Düsseldorf area they have been part of the Expat meetup for some time, but now they have joined the organisation team and we are very happy to have them on board!
Along with our existing members Caro, Patrick Dinesh and Mark, we will do our very best to welcome you at the Meetup and make you feel comfortable.

We would like to say a big thank you to all of who came to the last Meetup, January is a difficult month but we managed to get a huge crowd, we hope you had fun and met some new friends

Did you remember the Stand Up Comedy Night back in November? Well, Joe Eagan really liked it here and will be returning again very soon to put on another event with some different acts, more details to follow!

As usual we would like to give a warm welcome to all new members who have recently arrived in Düsseldorf or joined our group! Meetup is a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world who live in the Düsseldorf area. It is so easy to join, no cost, everyone is welcome! Just turn up, buy a drink and introduce yourself to fellow members.

If you are a regular member, you know what it is all about, just keep turning up and doing what you do, it is the great atmosphere that you create that makes our the Meetup so popular.

All the best,
The Düsseldorf Expat Meetup Team
(Babette, Caro, Dinesh, Eric, Patrick, Mark)
