Maitland – Hunter Valley NSW.
Walka Water Works, as well as being a popular picnic and recreation area in the Maitland district, is also steeped in history that gives it a special place in the Lower Hunter's heritage. The complex features its pumphouse with striking chimney and ornate brickwork and is one of the largest and most intact 19th Century industrial complexes in the Hunter Valley. The large lake area with over 300 species of birdlife is suitable for water sports like canoeing and sailing and walking trails surround the lake. Picnic and barbeque facilities are available and there is a children's playground area at the old pumping station built in 1887.
Gates open from 7.00am – 5.00pm

Cost: Free, each person to bring a small child’s gift donation towards prizes, so every child receives a gift.

Description: This is a family day event, all welcome.
11.30 am: Arrival and set up
12.00 – 12.30noon: Starting with a ritual designed for families to understand the meaning of Imbolc and to include the children in the ritual, kept simple and short, but significant with smoking ceremony, acknowledgement of country & ancestors as well as storytelling.
12.30 pm-1.15pm: A shared feast and BBQ – all contribute!
1.30pm – 2.15pm: Nature walk, bush tucker & medicine.
2.30pm – 3.30pm: Fun Imbolc games and relay races, with prizes to be won.

3.30pm – 4.00pm: Competition for the best Gwyl Fairy house built at the base of trees in the park, children take things in the wild to build these, each works alone at their own creation.
4.oopm – 4.20pm: Return to Circle for talk on Totemism and what it means in our lives here in 2011, short closing ritual.
4.20pm – 4.45pm: pack up and leave.

We also hope to have a face painter, a clown, and a couple of volunteers to be extra fun for the day in costumes!
Every child will leave with a gift.
