Observing all the things: Apache Kafka® and Apache Flink® with OpenTelemetryAbstract:
This session explores how OpenTelemetry can be used to enhance observability for Apache Kafka and Apache Flink. We will cover practical demonstrations of using OpenTelemetry to trace Kafka's producer and consumer workflows, capture Kafka broker metrics using JMX, and extend this visibility to managed Kafka services like Confluent Cloud. Additionally, the session will highlight how OpenTelemetry’s integration with Apache Flink provides end-to-end observability into real-time data stream processing. Attendees will learn how to instrument their applications for better monitoring and faster incident resolution using open standards, enabling more transparent, interoperable, and efficient telemetry collection.Bio:
Mehreen Tahir is a Software Engineer at New Relic. She specializes in machine learning, data science, and artificial intelligence. Mehreen is passionate about observability and the use of telemetry data to improve application performance. She actively contributes to developer communities and has a keen interest in edge analytics and serverless architecture.***
