a reply to Peter's announcement

This is in response to Peter's announcement from the mailing list.
His announcement is attached at the end.

I think you are going in the wrong direction.

I would rather prefer the meeting to start at 6:30pm and in a quiet conference room.
Try to find a sponsor for a conference room.
A restaurant is not really a good place.

Not having 2 meetings scheduled at the same time in 2 different places might
solve the confusion for some people (One at Hobee's another at Denny's).

Not having 2 meetup groups for the same purpose should also help.
There is this:
and this:

Focus in only one meetup and don't disappoint people who goes to a venue and
don't find anybody there is a big plus.

meeting announcements should not be via mailing list.
You should update the meetup description and people who have questions
can add comments to the event.
If people have doubts about the location or content of the meeting and have
no ways to clarify, they won't attend, even if they've signed up.

Improving Meetup Attendance 5/18/13

Problem: We’re only getting 1/2 to 1/3 of the members attending, that RSVP.

Goal: I’d like to have 3/4 or more, of people show, that RSVP.

Cause: What do you think is the cause of the high “drop-out” rate of those who RSVP?

Proposed Solution: I’m getting the feeling, that because there is no Charge for attending the meeting, people don't feel “committed” to attend - when they promise to - thru RSVP. I’m thinking of charging $5, 7.50 or $10 to attend this meeting. For this payment, in addition to getting a good Program (ie, Speaker), attendees would be treated to Eggrolls, Chicken Wings & Sticks (+ other Chinese food, if you like) at KING EGGROLL (next to Denny’s in Milpitas). What do you think of this way? What amount would you be willing to pay? Or should we stay at Denny’s & I give you the Fee back, when you order Dinner.

King Eggroll Venue: We wouldn’t have a private room as in Denny’s, but we’d have an area in the back of that would be semi-private.

Topics: To make our programs more interesting, I’d like to do Topics that are the ones you are more interested in. Please let me know which Topics these are.

This group has been going for almost 7 years and is (I believe) the 2nd largest in the area. I get comments all the time from most members that attend, they are impressed with the quality of the speaker and their talk. However, I believe we need to make changes to significantly improve attendance.

Your feedback will be deeply appreciated, and we’ll use it to determine our future method of operation. Thank you in advance.
