Meetup Description: The West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club is proud to present ?The Birds of the Los Angeles Basin and the Habitats that Support Them?. Eleanor, outreach chairwoman of the Los Angeles Audubon Society, has been ?birding? for almost 30 years. She teaches an ?Introduction to Bird Watching? class at West Los Angeles College?s Westside Extension.
This free educational event is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Los Angeles Birds and Their Habitats. Eleanor will introduce us to some of the extraordinary birds that we share our city with and will discuss the ongoing efforts to conserve and restore bird habitats in West Los Angeles. Discover the adorable Western Snowy Plover, which lives among the sand dunes at Malibu Lagoon. Learn about the playful and acrobatic California Least Tern, whose numbers are rebounding thanks to efforts to protect its nesting sites at places like Venice Beach. Get an update on birds that are flocking to the restored Ballona Freshwater and Saltwater Marshes.
Event details: Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 at 7pm at Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium in the Uruapan room, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City 90230. Plenty of free lighted parking. Refreshments are served and there is always a lively talk accompanying the program. Feel free to bring a friend; all meetings are open to both members and non-members of the Sierra Club.
