Join us for an evening of quilt-themed fun with the Alliance for American Quilts and Emily from Haptic Lab, in honor of National Quilting Month.

When I look at Emily Fischer's quilts, my mind is drawn to the miles of stitches that make up her Soft-Maps (https://hapticlab.com/index.php?/quilts/blanket-maps/), a project she started in 2002 as an academic exploration of "tactile wayfinding" when her mother began to lose her eyesight. Emily is the Brooklyn-based artist behind Haptic Lab (http://www.etsy.com/people/HapticLab), whose studio is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Etsy Labs in DUMBO. She'll be joining us at Craft Night, Monday, March 28 to make quilted bracelets (pictured below) and impart some of her quilting wisdom.

Prior to the start of Craft Night, Amy Milne, from the Alliance for American Quilts (http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/), will be hosting an interview with Emily, live on Etsy's Livestream page (http://www.livestream.com/etsy). The interview is part of the Quilters' Save Our Stories project (http://www.allianceforamericanquilts.org/qsos/) (QSOS), whose mission is to "create, through recorded interviews, a broadly accessible body of information concerning quiltmaking, both present-day and in living memory, for scholarship and exhibition. This grassroots project continually captures the voices and stories of quiltmakers and posts the transcribed interviews here." This interview, like all QSOS interviews, will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Join us to see history in the making!
