Once a month we will meet up at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary to help with their needs. Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a 400 acre non-profit refuge for farm animals and wildlife located in Poolesville, Maryland. Our mission is to: Offer care, rehabilitation, and permanent sanctuary for neglected, abandoned or unwanted farm animals. Provide protected habitat for wildlife. Furnish information to the public regarding farm animal and wildlife issues. Promote compassion and humane treatment for all animals. Once in a while we will also take field trips to other sanctuaries in the Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia area. You might want to bring the following with you: Rubber boots and rain -if the weather is bad. Do not wear sandals or flip flops or any good shoes as they might get ruined. Same with the clothes. You might want to bring layers of clothes as it gets cold in the morning but later it warms up as you are working.
Disclaimer* - Please know and be aware of your own fitness level and take care of your health. This is a fun group and a good way to socialize with friends, but safety comes first. If you come out to volunteer or any other event - please be responsible for yourself, hydrate and stop if you feel shortness of breath, faint or dizzy. You must take precautions when around farm animals as things can happen.
Myself and any other group leaders and the sanctuary are not accountable for any injuries that may occur during a run.
It is mandatory that prior to volunteering that you fillout and sign both the liability forms and volunteer forms which can be found here-
