October Feature - A Touch of Evil

Join us for the first monthly event designed to play larger games we don’t get a chance to play often. This month’s Featured Game Meetup will occur on Sunday, October 13 from 12PM - 4PM at HobbyTown USA (3500 South College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80525).

To celebrate the Halloween theme this month, we will be playing the cooperative adventure game, A Touch of Evil and the first expansion, Something Wicked. Rules will be taught at the start of the Meetup.  If you own a copy and would like to attend, let me know and we can add additional players for another table.

How does this event differ from Wednesdays and Saturdays? This is not an open gaming event. We’ll schedule a specific game once a month and get the players we need to play. This monthly event will focus on games where playing time and/or table space is an issue.

RSVP Policy: RSVP’s are required for this event, due to the limited number of players allowable in each game. This month’s game will be limited to six people. Although the suggested playing time is 90 minutes, please be aware that we have set aside four hours to cover the rules and play. The game could last shorter, but it will depend on the pace of play. If you feel that you will arrive late and/or need to leave early, please RSVP for a different event so that we can schedule a full table.

Game Description: 'Tis the dawn of the 19th century; an age of science, superstition, and witchcraft. Howling fills the night as a full moon rises over the small, secluded village of Shadowbrook. Gruesome murders have become a daily occurrence and terror haunts the streets at night. An evil creature has taken up residence here and the countryside is engulfed by a tide of darkness. But all is not lost…not yet.

A small group of heroic individuals, with the courage and strength to fight, have arrived in town. Some just passing through while others have come with a purpose; but all will be put to the test as they race to save this cursed town from falling into darkness.

A Touch of Evil, The Supernatural Game is a fast-paced game of fiendish creatures, dashing Heroes, and high-adventure. Each player takes on the role of a unique monster-hunting Hero, racing against time to stop the forces of darkness from claiming another foothold in the world of man. Only by investigating the town and building your Hero’s strength can you hope to hunt down the Supernatural Villain to his Lair and defeat him in an epic Showdown.

A Touch of Evil is designed to create an adventurous cinematic feel as the story and game unfolds. So grab up your Wooden Stake, stuff some shot in that Musket, and hold onto your Tricorn Hat; no one is safe from the creatures of the night and no one can be trusted...for inside everyone lies A Touch of Evil.

Before signing up, please check out the game on Boardgamegeek and see the Board to Death video review to determine if it is something you will enjoy.

I am agreed with Steve. The whupping we put on Scarecrow was mildly surprising to me. I think a second game will likely roll a little more smoothly, as well, and might consequentially be wrapped up a little more quickly. If not next month, I'd like to take another crack at ATOE within the next two to three sessions. Won't break my heart if I'm voted down on that, but it's what I'd like.

Double FUCKING CRAP!!! I did it again! Anyway, I was going to say, with the three-on-one, a person would have to successfully escape for another to "tag-team" in, or something. We can make up house rules to increase the intensity of the final fight pretty much as we please. You wrote three separate paragraphs. How'd you do it?

Shift + Enter created a paragraph. It did limit me to 1,000 characters, so I had to trim out some of what I was saying.

I'll check out some additional house rules before I schedule it again. The basic rules also pulled out some of the secrets: A couple cards made them join the villain, a couple gave them the ability to be placed on the board and act as militia on a space, and another pair allowed them to join a hero like an ally.

Really fun game, definitely should play again and ratchet up the difficulty!

Had a great time. The adventurers defeated the Scarecrow and saved the Village of Shadowbrook, minus a couple of the town elders and poor Selena, the Housemaid, who sacrificed herself.

HobbyTown is located in the SE corner of The Square. The game room is located in HobbyTown's basement, which is reached from the stairs in the back corner of the store. See you all Sunday.

I love the idea for these monthly boardgaming events, Todd. Sorry that I won't be able to make it this Sunday (darn trip to see the parents!), but look forward to taking part in future meetups. I've acquired several new games that I rarely get to the table (and which seem like a good fit for these meetups), including Yedo, Duel of Ages, Legends of Andor, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Imperial, Merchant of Venus, Cosmic Encounter, and others. Hope everyone enjoys playing A Touch of Evil (the BGG comments make it sound excellent). -- Scott
