Announcing a new meeting for The DC Area Folk SOJO (Sing Out Jam Out)!
What: A Solstice SOJO!
When: Saturday, June 21, 2:00 PM
Suggested donation: USD4.00 per person
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Who should come: "Y'all come back now, ya hear?"
Why: If the 21st is anything like the day of our last SOJO, Air Conditioning! Food music, good company, fun, and all that stuff too, of course!
Meeting Description: Our next scheduled SOJO Saturday is the Summer Solstice! Come and celebrate the longest day of the year. Musically muse about the shortest night. It's also World Humanist Day, National Go Skateboarding Day in the U.S. and National Aboriginal Day in Canada.
Celebrate everyone's right to vote (see this article to find out why), or the introduction of the long playing record album by Columbia in 1948. Celebrate, or mourn, as the case may be, John Hinkley's attempted assassination of President Reagan in 1982. Make note of the naming of Pluto's moons Nix and Hydra in 2004. Raise your voice to celebrate the birth of Ray Davies, Joey Molland (of Badfinger), or DC's own Nils Lofgren. Note the passing of Bert Kaempfert (author of "Stranger in the Night" and producer of the first Beatles recordings with Tony Sheridan).
If all that's not enough inspiration, perhaps Wikipedia can help.
We sing and play from 2PM to 5PM. Please try to be on time, so that we can get in as much singing and playing as we can. We take a break around 3:30, to rest our voices (fingers, etc.).
We suggest (but do NOT require) a donation of $4 per person to help cover the cost of renting the room. If you cannot afford $4, have no fear. You won't be turned away, or otherwise shunned, if you cannot pay.
Come. Sing. Play music.
