7:00pm Workshop: The 'Otherworld' of Science — Exploring Platonic Space and the Ghosts in the Machine
Last month, LORE gathered to peer through the veil — exploring fairies, ghosts, UAPs, and machine elves as reflections of the human encounter with the Other. This month, we’ll carry that conversation further into the strange landscape where science meets the supernatural — into what philosophers and physicists call Platonic Space: the realm of pure forms, mathematical truths, and timeless ideas.
We’ll look at how thinkers like Sir Roger Penrose and Max Tegmark describe this invisible geometry of reality, and how modern ideas — like Mo Gawdat’s notion that intelligence is the opposite of entropy — echo the ancient mysteries of order emerging from chaos. Along the way, we’ll consider how the Platonic Representation Hypothesis in AI and the eerie notion of “ghosts in the machine” might point to a convergence between artificial intelligence and the older mythic worlds of the fey, demons, and the dead.
This session will briefly revisit last month’s themes, then open into discussion — with plenty of time for sharing ideas, insights, and personal experiences that bridge mysticism, science, and metaphysics.
