PyData Berlin September meetup

PyData Berlin September meetup

Details

The next PyData Berlin meetup will take place on the 21st of September at GetYourGuide in Prenzlauer Berg.

GetYourGuide will offer pizza and drinks at around 19:00. Then Richard Dutton will give a talk on PySpark and Moritz Beber will talk to us about transcriptional regulatory networks.

Please keep your RSVP up to date, it is a very nice thing to do!

Richard Dutton

Introduction to PySpark

This talk will provide a brief overview of Apache Spark as relevant to Python developers. It will include an overview of [Py]Spark’s applicability and functionality, examples of ETL and machine learning and pointers for unit testing, tuning and troubleshooting.

Richard Dutton works as Director of Engineering at Earnest Research, an alternative data company based in NYC. His past roles include Head of Rates Technology Asia for Barclays Capital and Engineer at Microsoft. His passions include Python and technology in general, as well as martial arts and Sisyphos.

Moritz Beber

Topological analysis of transcriptional regulatory networks (TRNs)

TRNs are networks (graphs) that encode our current understanding of regulatory relationships between genes in biological organisms.
The database RegulonDB has published regulatory information specific to the bacterium Escherichia coli for over ten years. During that time our knowledge has increased dramatically due to more exhaustive experiments. The presentation shows a graph-theoretical analysis of different snapshots of that data and in the process uses interesting Python tools, for example, networkx, ipyparallel, and widgets for the visualization in Jupyter Notebooks.

Moritz Beber holds a PhD in bioinformatics, has contributed to many of the scientific Python tools, and is currently active in the digital refugee aid space as a member of http://metacollect.org.
