If you missed their show at Johnny D's last night I hope you'll seriously consider dropping everything to hear/see them at The Center for the Arts Natick on Friday night, Feb. 20th. My friends and I were stunned by the talent, musicianship, and presence of this hot Canadian band. They are yet another example of the amazing evolving face of trad folk, world, celtic, and jam/jazz music coming out of the young Canadian music scene.
here are two Reviewer's thoughts:
"[the McDades] find their groove somewhere between a down-home kitchen party, a jazzy after hours club, and a folk festival." LONDON FREE PRESS
"Punching through the walls of tradition, the McDades celtic rooted music fuses the spontaneity of jazz improv and infectious global rhythms. Their cutting edge sound is the perfect compliment to their fiery performances. It's hot stuff and very entertaining." Tom Nelligan DIRTY LINEN
You can sample their music - cd tracks and/or video at their website http://themcdades.com
or at www.myspace.com/themcdades
The band's lineup has changed a bit since music and video were posted - in addition to the McDade siblings Solon, Jeremiah, and Shannon, there are two new musicians - on guitar and drums. This incarnation of the band is very tight and they're clearly having a great time together. The guitarist, Simon Marion, who joined the band last summer, has recorded and performed with members of Le Vent Du Nord, and is a featured guest on the band's recent live concert cd Mesdames et Messieurs. Jeremiah McDade is also a guest on that concert recording.
Their stage presence is electric, but they are warm, accessible, friendly and engaging offstage with their audience and fans.
I hope you'll let me know if you plan to attend - if not, or if this might appeal to other friends please pass the word along. We're hoping for a great party among friends that night!
