Friends Camping, Hiking and Outdoor Club Message Board › Hiker's responsibilities
What are a hikers responsibilities?
Please know your limits and be sure you are capable of doing the hike that you attend. If you are unsure, please phone the hike leader to gather germane details about the hike.
Remember that your Hike leaders invest time, energy and money to offer YOU a good outing.
Remember: A 'yes' RSVP is a commitment.
Please have your 'ducks-in-a-row' prior to your 'yes' RSVP, and then please keep your commitment.
Be respectful -
1) If cancelling your 'yes' RSVP within 48 hours of an event, please do so BY PHONE as Hike leaders do not always have the time to check a computer for your last-minute cancellation.
2) No-Shows or those who continually cancel will be dropped from the Club roster.
3) Please note that we do not offer a 'maybe' RSVP option - that is intentional.
If you are committed to attending, and after clearing your calendar, please RSVP 'yes'.
Thanks, but if you are not attending there is no need to RSVP "no".
4) All hikers must wait at the finish for the last hiker - this is for safety as well as being a cordial gesture. Some day YOU may be the last hiker in and you will appreciate it too
There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it when you feel circumstances permit. When you're committed to doing something, you neither offer or accept excuses, only results.”
Please pay any required fees (permits, etc) to the hike leader prior to the hike.
Voluntarily pay your share of carpooling costs.
Let the hike leader know that you appreciate their efforts.
Please ask the Hike Leader any questions that you may have prior to the hike.
Membership in Friends Hiking Club is merely $15.00 a year - ($16.75 if paid through Meetup) If a non-paid member, the per-hike rate is $5.00.
Please be prepared, physically and gear-wise, whenever you hike. Water, sunscreen, hat and jacket are a good starting point for your gear list. Knowledge and inclusion of the 10 Hiking Essentials are highly recommended. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst!
FOLLOW THE HIKE LEADERS INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES. Please stay with the group, and DON'T go wandering off alone. None of us EVER leave the finishing trail-head until everyone has returned. No one likes waiting, but please act as if the shoe was on the other foot.
