Bilingual Buena Vista Walk (Spanish/English), Santa Clara River, Ventura County

The Santa Clara River is one of wildest rivers remaining in Southern California. Join us for an easy bilingual (Spanish & English) walk through a diversity of unique habitats where birds and other wildlife congregate. Venture to the river's edge and dip your feet in the soothing flow. Identify birds and plants. Look for fish, frogs, and toads. This walk is at a relaxed pace and appropriate for families.

Where: 1235 Mission Rock Rd, Santa Paula, CA 93060, From CA-126 in Santa Paula, exit at Briggs Rd. and drive south, turn Right on Pinkerton Rd, turn Left on Mission Rock Rd. Continue to dead-end and park near gate.

Difficulty: Easy. 1-2 miles round trip. Almost no elevation gain. Overgrown single track trail. Some navigation through unmaintained vegetation. Uneven terrain. Mix of sun exposure and shade. Out and back.

Bring a minimum of 1 quart (32 oz) of water per person. Bring snacks and/or full meal. Wear weather protection (jacket, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.), durable hiking socks and close-toed hiking shoes (extra pair for wet tours), long pants, and backpack for snacks. Bring swimsuit and towel for wet tours. Bring first aid kit (Band-Aids, antiseptic, allergy medicine, tweezers, etc.) and cell phone. Bring flashlight/headlamp and layered clothing for evening tours. Walking sticks are recommended for tours with stream crossings or uneven terrain. Bring trash bag for litter along the trail.
