2nd Annual Valentine's Day on Heartbreak Hill, Agoura

Robert and I will take you on a heart-thumping workout to the top of Liberty Canyon Natural Preserve. It's a tough, steep climb up to the top. Once there, we'll then enjoy a respite on the ridgeline with 360 degree views of surrounding area.

Trailblazing: No, these trails have been trodden by others. I haven't been on some since last Valentine's Day.

Bushwacking: Yes, there's one single track that's brushy.

Exploratory: Maybe; it's been a year since I've been there so I might have to re-find the route. Easy enough, though.

Terrain: Fireroad, single track.

Pace: Any pace is fine for this one. If necessary, we'll split into 2 groups with Robert leading the speedsters. This will suit you if you're used to 6 mile hikes.

Start Time: You should aim to be there at 1:45PM. We'll leave when everyone arrives, or wait 15 minutes for you until 2:00PM. If you get there at 2:01PM, we'll be gone.

Stats: About 6 miles, 1,200'. Terrain: Single track, fireroad, one xc brushy trail.

Bring: Snack, water, first aid kit, camera, trekking poles if you like using them. We return before sunset, but you should always carry a headlamp (I have extras to lend).

Wear: RED for Valentine's Day. Lug soles, layers.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs welcome if you don't mind taking them on brushy trail (ticks). Open Space Rules: Dogs must be restrained by a leash not exceeding six feet in length, and must be under control at all times.

Directions:

Exit FWY101 at LIBERTY CANYON ROAD (Agoura Hills/Calabasas area) and go SOUTH.

Turn first RIGHT at AGOURA ROAD, go 0.25 miles to dirt parking lot on left side.

Nearly a heart off the trail ... let's see if it's still there this year.

"Heart on the Hill,"--one I made for Robert on Last Chance Trail 3 miles north of Jackson Falls, Sespe Wilderness. Now that's a heart-thumping hike ... 22 miles/7,500'.
