http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/1/1/2/event_127392562.jpegWe take a steady climb up Yellow Hill Fire Road--probably an area you've never visited. There are gorgeous vistas of the ocean, islands, Mount Boney Wilderness, and the setting sun.

NO GUESTS. Even although the guest feature is turned on, that's only so I can reflect the friends I'm bringing. Everyone else must be signed up at Fun in the Sun Club Meetup, thereby agreeing to Meetup's Release of Liability (https://www.meetup.com/terms/). Don't show up without signing up here first. Thank you.

Trailblazing? No, we'll be on trails.

Exploratory: No, I know the route well.

Bushwacking? It's just a bit overgrown in parts, but no big deal.

We'll be hiking on NPS property.

MEETING PLACE: In front of the visitor center at Leo Carrillo State Park parking lot, located on north-east corner of PCH and Mulholland Hwy. Parking is about $10-$12 in the lot, but you can park for free on PCH.

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/1/9/8/e/event_127386542.jpegPark on south side of PCH. Opposite Mulholland Hwy you'll see a yellow gate. Go through gate.http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/d/2/a/event_120032042.jpeg

Turn left to go to beach and walk down to beach. Photo courtesy of Elyse.http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/1/d/0/event_122232752.jpegCross sand and you'll see a restroom, then go under the bridge.

You'll reach the parking lot with the visitor center.

Give yourself plenty time to park & walk, e.g. 15 mins.

TIME: Arrive EARLIER than start time. It's a good idea to plan to be there at 5:45AM so if you get lost or there's traffic, you'll still be on time. We'll wait 15 minutes until 6:00PM at the latest. If you get there at 6:01PM, we'll be gone.

ESTIMATED STATS: 6 miles/1,500'

TERRAIN: Fire road, a small bit of single track, all easy.

TYPE OF HIKE: Out and back the same way.

WEAR: You may want to wear long pants for foxtails/ticks.

BRING: All the usual--water, first aid kit, extra layer, snack, etc. For afternoon hikes you should always carry a headlamp (or at the very least a flashlight).

PACE/LEVEL: We'll naturally split into 2 groups--one moderate, one conditioning, so if you're used to the stats, this hike will suit you. Fantastic views so plenty time to stop, take pics, and wait for everyone to catch up. The conditioning group may do a little loop at the top while others catch up.

DOGS: Well behaved, leashed dogs welcome. Note that although we're meeting in Leo Carrillo State Park, we're not hiking in it (dogs not allowed in State Parks).
