Las Virgenes Open Space Exploratory

This hike will suit you if have an adventurous spirit and are open for anything.

We're going exploring in Las Virgenes Open Space. This is the kind of hike I like best--looking for the best route, making connections for the first time, doing a hike I've never done before, or perhaps only once.

Trailblazing and Exploratory. Occasionally Strenuous for short bursts, but mostly moderately paced on a Roller Coaster Terrain Leader's choice most of the way but I won't know until I get there.

No "no shows." Do not sign up if you've been a "no show" at any Meetup or your RSVP will be changed to a "no."

Start Time: Arrive EARLIER. It's a good idea to be there at 8:45AM so if you get lost or there's traffic, you'll still be on time. If you're lacing up your boots at 9:00AM, we'll be gone.

Meeting Place in Calabasas: Will be sent to participants by day before hike.

Estimated Stats: 6-7 miles and less than 1,500' of elevation gain.

Pace: Moderate, about 2.5mph overall average. Participants stay behind the leader and group stays together. No one is left behind.

Bring: Snacks, water, first aid kit, gloves (garden gloves fine), layers, trekking poles if you have them; there could be steep sections. We return before dark, but for afternoon hikes you should always bring a headlamp or at the very least, a flashlight.

Wear: Layers, your hiking shoes/boots with the best lug soles, hat, long pants/sleeves for brush protection.

Dogs: Sorry, no dogs ('cos we'll be in a State Park)

Leave nothing of value in your vehicle at any trailhead.
