Conejo OS Challenge 3: Hawk Cyn and Hill Cyn Trails

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/9/4/event_194641172.jpegThe Conejo Open Space Challenge: For the second year, the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA (http://www.conejo-openspace.org/)) is putting on an event to get us to experience some of the beautiful but possibly less well known trails in the Conejo Valley. To encourage us to complete the challenge, prizes are offered to some people who complete all ten segments of the Challenge before May 1, and also to those who take the best photos along the way. You prove you hiked the segments by emailing photos of a specific location to the organizer, or by joining this Meetup event. For our third challenge, we'll cover two segments of the challenge in one hike, the only time we'll do so. We start by hiking the newest trail in the Conejo Valley, the Hawk Canyon Trail, built over the past year and with lots of help from volunteers during the Annual Trailwork Day. We'll continue on the Hill Canyon Trail to The New Bridge. This bridge was installed about a year ago and gives access to the Conejo Canyons Open Space area from Wildwood and the Santa Rosa Valley.

Details

Distance: 5 miles out and back, with a slightly different route on the way back
Climbing: 450' cumulative
Pace: We'll hike at a moderate pace so that novice hikers can join in. We'll need to hike together as a group so that nobody gets lost by taking a wrong turn at one of the several forks we'll pass through.

Driving Directions: From the 101 Freeway in Newbury Park, exit at Rancho Conejo Blvd heading north. Drive 1.8 miles, almost to the end, then turn left onto Conejo Center Drive. Continue 0.3 miles then park at the side of the road. The trailhead is on the right.
