I wanted to send you all a note that I have decided to combine the Pre-Funk and Music/Dancing that I have previously been scheduling as separate events into a single meetup.
I know that some people can sometimes only make it for the music and dancing later at 9pm. So, I decided to make them two events so I would know how many people I could expect early at 7:30 for reserving tables.
As I have mentioned in the event descriptions, I want everybody to feel comfortable and have a good time so I think it's important to have a fairly large group there early enough to reserve some tables or common area to interact and get to know each other...otherwise there wouldn't be much point of a meetup group. It is also a very good time to get something to eat, have drinks, visit, and get to know the other people in the group before the music and dancing startup at 9pm. This worked great for our first meetup at Cool River. Of course it will always depend on how busy the places are at 7:30, but I wouldn't want to make it for any earlier.
I will always try to get the venues to work with us on reservations, drink specials, etc. if possible. Cool River just wasn't very cooperative.
So that being said I really like starting the meetup at 7:30...however I think that having two separate meetups can be a bit confusing and a pain for people to have to RSVP twice.
Therefore, following the meetup at The Hoffbrau this weekend I plan to schedule future events as one meetup starting at 7:30 that will include both the Pre-Funk time and Music/Dancing (Funk time!). The only thing I ask is if you RSVP 'Yes' but are not able to make it at 7:30 that you mention this in your RSVP comments.
So I will try this for awhile and see how it goes. I will also post this email to the Message Board and I would welcome any feedback or comments.
If you like listening and dancing to Old School Funk and Soul music from great artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, The Commodores, Con Funk Shun, Kool & The Gang, Dazz Band, Midnight Star, Michael Jackson, The Whispers, Cameo, Prince, etc. etc. then this group is for you.
There are many great cover bands and venues around the Denver area that play this kind of music, so I decided to start this group to bring people together who love Funk and Soul for some dancing, socializing, making new friends, and just having fun! We will also get together for some Funk and Soul parties with DJ music but most meetups will be live music with local bands.
So come on out and join us for some awesome Funk and Soul Nights with some of the best Denver cover bands including Boogie Machine, Soul School, Funkiphino, Hot Lunch, Stretch 9, Chase N The Dream, and others!
