State of the Union

  • January 22, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Hello, folks. I am quite preoccupied these days, so much so that I'm not comfortable scheduling Meetups because I can't guarantee I'd be able to attend. As Organizer, I feel it's my responsibility to be able to contribute to posted events.

One of our members, Doug, happens to organize the Indie Game Developers meetup. He will be hosting an event at DZone on the 22nd in central Cary, and it sounds like he has a lot planned for the New Year. Instead of meeting at Cinelli's this month, why don't we support Doug and his group? The description for the event is below, and the webpage is located at:

This will be the first annual "State of the Union".

We will discuss the state of the indie game industry, goals that we see for it, how we can be a part of it and how can we empower each other.

-Discuss creating our first "Game Jam".
-Show off projects that we are all working on.
-Meet and find people to work with.
-Plan what other meet ups we want to have.

This is going to be our first official meet up so lets try to get a good turn out.

Thanks all and let us know what you think and if you will be able to make it.

Only reason it got four stars instead of five is that I'm hoping the next one will be twice as big, attendance-wise! DZone has a great space, and the Meetup itself was very productive. (Meeting at Mellow Mushroom afterward was pretty nice, too.)

I really enjoyed meeting everyone I got a chance to talk to, and still hope to connect with others I didn't get a chance to meet at a future event.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
