What would you like to do/learn in this meetup

I've always been intrigued by computers and video games but growing up somewhat isolated in a small town with dial-up internet until I was 16 didn't exactly nurture my computer knowledge. I attended the North Carolina School of Science and Math were it seemed everyone was a wiz at computers so I didn't delve into it much as a serious hobby because I thought it was too late. When I entered college I majored in Mechanical Engineering for my freshman year until I decided I really wanted to do game development. Ever since I have been trying to learn as much as I can about game design and development and programming in general. Unfortunately I don't have the best time management skills (who does) and I'm not great at teaching myself so it has been a rough road so far. I'm hoping to meet and converse with other game developers in an attempt to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I tend to learn better from people. Hopefully this group can help or inspire me to create my first real game.

What are your favorite games?

I tend to play a variety of games and unfortunately I did not get to play too many of the classics as a kid. Some of my favorites are: Halo series, CoD series (not taking into account the associated community), Twisted Metal series (especially Black), Skyrim, Fable I & III, Dead Rising 1 & 2, Need For Speed series, GTA III & Vice City & IV, Madden series (don't hate), Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper series, Spyro the Dragon 1 & 2, Crash Bandicoot Series, Burnout Revenge, Red Dead Redemption, GUN and probably a lot more I can't think of

Which part of game development are you interested in? ie. Programmer, graphics

I'm mostly interested in design and programming. Especially the topics of AI and game mechanics and possibly level design. That being said, I want passing knowledge in most areas if only to better understand the process as a whole.

How did you hear about this meetup group? (Friend, meetup, etc)

Someone had suggested looking for a group of indie game devs that meet up in the area and I just discovered this website last week. After doing a quick search I found this group.

Hi, my name is Malcolm Cosh and I am a third year NCSU student majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in game design. I enjoy playing video games, if that wasn't obvious, but I'm also a fan of the outdoors, sports, meeting new people, etc.
