"I've seen a number of people using Game Maker in the Ludum Dare contest/jams. I have a copy and I like it. I know a lot of people who are further along in programming use it for prototyping as well."

"That's interesting. I wasn't aware that there were books on Game Maker. Amazon search brings up several titles. It definitely looks like an interesting alternative application, with a free version and a full version for $40. Yoyogames.com"
