Hackathon

I am really excited to see so many have signed up for the hackathon! This event is really imporant for helping the growth of the tech and game dev community here in Sacramento. But just thought id make note of a few things about the event.

For those who can not attend we will make sure to have lots of pictures and video!

  • For those who haven't already please make sure you have paid for the event through eventbrite, you can use the promo code I posted. Every cent is going to making this event even more awesome then it already is.
  • If you are new to hackathons I recommend reading the "How to prepare for the hackathon", post made by the creator of the event.
  • This is a weekend long event, it starts Saturday morning and ends Sunday evening. The actual hacking begins around 12pm but make sure to come at 9am because there will be presentations from some important people and I will also be doing a presentation how to prototype and stay focused at a hackathon. The doors will be open all night, food and drinks will be provided!
  • Come with an idea to pitch, if your shy or don't have an idea... We will make sure everyone is on a team (or you can work alone if you'd like, recommend being on a team though).
  • Building a product isn't just about programming, there is plenty to do outside of coding so don't be scared if you can't code.
  • Bring a computer!

If you have any questions at all do not hesitate to ask me! I will also be acting as a mentor throughout the entire event, so don't be scared to bug me about anything!

Sac Jam #05

Same time, same place ;-) Just like in the previous game jams we will be spending the day (6 hours) hacking away and building games! Make sure to read the post I made on how to get prepared for the jam. If the hackathon works out well perhaps we may some day have a weekend long game jam ;-)

Exciting times ahead people, the more events we have like these and the more vocal we make ourselves I wouldn't be surprised if Sacramento was the next big tech and game dev hot spot in the next year or two. San Francisco is the hub for tech and game dev right now, why can't we be the same? Companies like Klick Nation and 5th Planet Games have already proven it's possible, so lets make it even bigger and better!
