[code lab] Skin the droid in WebGL

  • May 3, 2013 · 4:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a 2-hour code lab on WebGL with THREE.js.

WebGL makes 3D in the browser possible without plugins, THREE.js makes it fun.

In this codelab, you will experiment with the basics of 3D (camera, lighting, geometries, materials) and then with more advanced models and effects (normal mapping, bump mapping, environment map, ...). Only Javascript is needed. No prior 3D rendering knowledge required. Please bring your own laptop and have a text editor installed.

About the trainer: +Martin Görner has worked on Mobipocket's ebook technologies which later became the software stack of the Kindle and which he helped develop for a couple more years as CEO of the Amazon-owned Mobipocket subsidiary. He is passionate about science, tehnology, computers, algorithms and everything in between including robots and HTML5. He joined Google Developer Relations in 2011.

If you are interested in the talks on WebGL and Ninja web framework you should sign-up for this meetup, too:

Felt a bit short for getting into it AND getting creative. Though very good explanations and a quick boost.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll add one hour the next time.

That was an inspiring (though felt short) workshop! :)

My silly webgl thingy (droid in a box?):

By the way, have in mind that if you create a TextureCube with even one image not being square, your Macbook is going to crash :)

Did some VRML/X3D a couple of years ago. Curious about what's going with WebGL.
