State of the Google Cloud SQL and an Introduction to the Samsung S Pen SDK

We are back to the Dublin library, and we will be using a new room, the Program room, December's meetings will be at the Dublin Library Community Room. Please turn to the right as you enter the library to reach the Program Room. I think it is quite a nice fit for the GDG to have the "Program" room for our meeting. :)

Before you read on, may I first say thank you to the members of this beautiful group. We started this little journey back in December 5th, 2011 and relaunched the East Bay GTUG at the Pleasanton library. Even I have been observing how GTUG works from a attendee point of view for some time, I did not realize the magnitude as a assistant organizer. But each task has its tolls and its rewards, over the months, we started to have regulars for the meetings. I started to remember your names, as least long enough to last through the raffle section.

Many of you pitched in to help getting the room setup, carrying stuff that make the event possible, cleaned up, sharing personal broadband bandwidth, suggesting event topics, sharing your ideas ... etc. Thank you for making GDG East Bay part of your community.

Recently, we had our first DevFest SV hackathon at the San Jose Convention Center. Would you like to have a hackathon in the East Bay by the middle of 2013? Where would you want GDG East Bay to be in the coming months and years? Join us and let's make an GDG style impact!

As the connection to servers move to the cloud, we are access more and more server functionals through the cloud. GDG East Bay is glad to have Razvan Musaloiu-E, Google, to share what is new of accessing database (SQL and no SQL) through cloud.

GDG East Bay is excited to announce that Wei Xiao of Samsung Telecommunication America will introduce us to the Samsung S Pen SDK.

GDG East Bay appreciates the support from the city of Dublin, California. Regional Meeting Room and Dublin library Community Room are both first-class locations for business and social events.

State of the Google Cloud SQL (Razvan Musaloiu-E, Google)

Google Cloud SQL came a long way since the first public announcement in late 2011. In this talk we'll discuss in detail the current status and benefits of Cloud SQL and also give some concrete guidance on how to get the most out of it. In the end we'll also cover some general techniques useful to debug MySQL performance issues and reserve time for Q and A.

An Introduction to the Samsung S Pen SDK (Wei Xiao, Samsung)

S Pen is a new innovative input tool  introduced along with the Galaxy Note series devices. S Pen provides faster and more accurate input than conventional stylus pens. The S Pen SDK allows developers to create applications that use S Pen’s unique input capabilities to provide an intuitive and dynamic user experience.

S Pen SDK provides a canvas, which offers the following graphical features:

Other high level features include: Pen coordination checking, pen pressure sensing, side button’s on/off status detection and event handling, hover.

To better support Unity game developers, Samsung just released S Pen SDK Unity extension to make S Pen and Unity integration easier.

Special Note:

The S Pen SDK 2.2 for Samsung Galaxy Note series is available for download (by clicking on the S Pen SDK DOWNLOAD image) at:
